A stele in Zhaoshan Temple. The meaning of the stele inscription is: I once read in the "Book of Songs": "With too many planners, nothing gets accomplished." This is like building a house by the roadside, where every passerby offers opinions, and the house never gets built—illustrating just how difficult it is to achieve anything. What the realm needs are generals and soldiers; the concern lies only in their loyalty. But once you have a loyal army, how should it be commanded? Looking back to the 46th year of Qianlong's reign (1781), seven of us jointly constructed that twenty-zhang-long cloud-ladder path on the front mountain, naming it "The Seven Worthies' Affinity." Later, we renovated a bronze statue in the front hall. By the Guichou year (1793), we added a large bell to the front hall and purchased forty-two mu of paddy fields at Haotang. In total, several hundred taels of silver were spent. Alas! The planning of this endeavor was not the work of a single person, nor was its execution accomplished in a day or two. Only through such sustained effort could it finally succeed. Isn't this due to their long-term perseverance and willingness to bear hardship and blame? Some might consider this approach both impractical and foolish. Yet, looking across the land, where are the wealthy not to be found? But if one only focuses on their own clothing, food, and dwelling, seeking merely to better their own lot, they surely could not accomplish such a thing. These people busied themselves day and night—was it to acquire fields and properties to enrich themselves? To spend these resources in a deep mountain temple, is that truly not the act of someone unskilled at gathering people's support? Even those who do not cherish gold, silver, and jewels mostly squander them in places of song and dance, indulging solely in pleasure. Treating money like dirt, how can they be called impractical? Yet those who consider themselves not impractical soon regret their lack of practicality; those who consider themselves not foolish ultimately cannot preserve their lack of foolishness. How can this compare to such a long-lasting and steadfast virtuous deed? Though years pass, wind blows, and rain beats, they still leave their names spoken among the incense-bearing pilgrims who come and go. Isn't this a case of spending without equal, yet arising from the undying good intentions of the many? It is not something to be ridiculed by the Book of Songs, and is sufficient for self-consolation! Therefore, I record this matter. I hope that gentlemen fond of charitable deeds will continue their support without interruption. As for saying this is done to seek blessings, fame, or profit—I dare not think such a thing. Read more Discourses of the States, Shaodian was a stepfather of the Yellow Emperor: "It was said that Shaodian's wife Fubao gave birth to the Yellow Emperor near the Ji River and the Yan Emperor next to the Jiang River which accounted to their different temperaments. Some said “Although Shaodian preceded the Yellow and Yan emperors, he was not their father.” " Lady Hua, the wife of Ye the Great and mother of Fei the Great (also known as Boyi), was said to be his descendant.
